Suction Lift with Gooseneck Flanges

For suction lift applications, the gooseneck flange configuration works great because it allows the pump to remain nearly filled with liquid. Two factors can then come into play to provide exceptional suction lift.

Good Prime
A fully primed Vogelsang HiFo rotary lobe pump floods the fluid chamber, fills all air gaps, and allows the closely fit lobes to actually pull air out of the suction pipe lifting the liquid below. Water columns of 28 feet can be lifted in this fashion.

High speed
The second principle is high speed. Tests show that as pump speed increases, the ability of that pump to create exceptional suction lift also increases, even with worn lobes!

The Answer
We design the flanges on both sides of the pump in such a way that the pump remains primed even when the suction line may actually have drained back down into the supply vessel during a shut down, or on initial start-up. This superior ability to pull product up into the pump makes Vogelsang rotary lobe pumps fitted with goose neck style flanges, the clear suction lift leader.
